Today I'm linking up with The B Bar's blog The Well and several other fabulous bloggers for their first Blog Link Up. Each month they'll be asking a question and inviting bloggers to share their answers. To kick off the series, they asked us 'What did you purchase in the last year that became invaluable to you?'.
I immediately had an answer for this one. The most invaluable thing I purchased (or in this case, didn't purchase) was a library membership. In 2014 I read more books than I probably have in the last 4 years. Reading for fun sort of loses its appeal in college when you're constantly reading textbooks and studying for exams. But, my interest in reading sparked again sometime after I moved to Denver and I found myself constantly purchasing books for my iPad and before I knew it, I was spending way more money than I really wanted on reading.
Books can be expensive, so I opted for a library card to check out books, but found out that with my library card I could check out e-books and audio books for my iPad through an app called Overdrive. Literally, THE. BEST. THING. EVER. I haven't calculated what I've saved on books since downloading the app and getting a card, but I think it's safe to say it's going to total up to quite a bit as I continue to use it.
I can easily add books to my wish list and place holds on books that aren't available. Each hold will automatically download to my library when it's available and just like at the library, I have 2 weeks to read, or I can renew if there isn't a waiting list. Like I said. Best. Thing. Ever.
